It would be nice to think there was still hope, but I see Sunsail have announced the redundancies and planned sale of the boats in Yachting Monthly this issue.
Losing that fleet would be a big loss to Scottish sailing.
Although I followed a different route, I know of quite a few keen sailors who have come into the sport through the corporate regattas that the Sunsail fleet uniquely resourced and who have gone on to become good, regular business for Sunsail at home and abroad, and for other sailing schools, charter operators and boat builders/brokers.
We sailors, and the commercial interests, lose such grass-roots introduction-points to our sport at our peril.

Well...Sunsail came back to me last Friday and said they WERE now prepared to accept our offer of £35k/boat. Horses and stable doors does spring to mind.... If they'd not tried to play poker with me we would have concluded the deal two months ago. Now, with economic uncertainly as it is, things have changed and I just don't have the confidence to invest.
I did ask them to call me back on Monday to discuss another option which may well have rescued the deal. It's now Thursday evening and I've still not heard from them...
I think we're totally scuppered.
Just bear in mind Sunsail's corporate stupidity and intransigence next time you book a holiday with them, eh?

It seems that the recession is really beginning to bite. The Herald today quoted Nardini's restaurant at Regattas as having gone bust! That is a bad sign I am sure as I have never seen that place anything but heaving!
I am certain that Sunsail must by now be regretting turning down offers for their Largs fleet. The price must by now be dropping daily.
