We arrived in good time along with the Sonas Mohr and dropped anchor right in the path of the ferry! After much deliberating both boats decided to relocate to a safer position. This was achieved quite professionally overall, however one of the boats decided they didn’t need their dinghy anymore and left it behind. I won’t name the culprit but Andrew & Laura (Thistle) had to rescue it for them…! After a delicious bowl of Cullen Skink I was given the task of taking Skipper Dave and Andrew back to the boat for some ‘real-sailor-type-preparation’ and returned with the dinghy to pick up the remainder of the crew. Now was a good time I thought to check we had the oars for the dinghy, which we did – sort of. We had ¾ of them actually, but better than none I suppose. So with the ‘partial’ paddling equipment onboard I made my way back to the slipway to pick up the girls. Phut phut splutter phut splutter………… phut, silence. Oh dear, our outboard motor had just died! I managed to start it again and limp to the slipway where I waited for the rest of our crew. After a quick safety brief i.e. “I think we’ve got a fuel problem with the outboard, but don’t worry we’ve got a paddle” off we went. We made it about 10 yards and the outboard conked out again. We then proceeded to start, stop, paddle, start, stop, paddle all the way back to the boat, much to the amusement of Skipper Dave and his mate – the ‘proper’ sailors!
