This was not helpful as I was desperately trying to persuade Jan that she wasn’t going to get sea-sick on what was her first long trip onboard a yacht…… I did manage to change the subject on a number of occasions and I think the prospect of a weekend “child and animal free” was too much to resist! D-Day arrived and the Aboyne contingent met at our house to load the cars. I suppose it was at this point it we should have noticed that things were not quite as they should be. Firstly there was Laura…… or should I say, the “Pink Lady!” She arrived wearing what can only be described as a shocking pink puffy Gilét with arms, and matching……. yes matching Timberland boots!! Secondly there was the beer……. or should I say ballast! Quite literally enough to sink a battleship, not to mention a yacht! Nothing to do with me you understand, and anyway we weren’t going to run short! Nevertheless, we managed to cram it all in and off we set in convoy, can you have a convoy with only two cars? All was well until Inverness where it was suggested we stop for a wee bite to eat. This in itself was not a problem – after all our car was in need of refreshments too. We weren’t however prepared for the ‘whacky races’ manoeuvres that were required going around a roundabout in order to get to the ‘pit-stop’.
