Everything was ready and we cast off the pontoon only for engine to conk and fail to restart! Great, but Colin is quick, up with jib and we sailed into deeper water on jib and spent 2 hours trying to pick up a mooring bouy! Great fun plenty of room and sunshine. Check fuel, now too low, but also discover serious diesel flood in engine bilge, we only had to motor a mile to fuel berth. Arrive at berth, fill up, had had to bleed the engine of air! Now 7:00 pm but sod it we are going to sail so motor up wind and sail back into sunset on the jib in most serene and pleasant 40 minutes of my sailing life! Moral of this story, just as engine serviced by previous owner, get an engine person to look it all over again. Our amateur checks had not found loose fitting fuel pipe to primary filter. Berth for night on mooring and set alarm for 04:00 to motor in to Marina on tide. Tick, night time arrival. Collect experienced skipper for day sail and get to Sheerness and back, we have now ticked, heads, beds, cooker, fridge, VHF, jib, mainsail, mooring, tying up, instruments, living together having only met through Yotlinx etc. Sunday much the same but very calm and almost windless conditions meant sailing was peaceful but checked out anchoring for instance, made a mess of anchor "ball" but all know how to do it next time! So it was a really successful outing we all got on and all will sail again soon, the boat is a beauty and we cannot wait to sail her in more taxing conditions. The conditions were perfect for our needs though, as it was soon apparent that no matter what our experience was collectively, until we know the boat we are nothing. Special mention to crew who were fantastic in every department and L&P shopped and catered as well! Charles Hessey Home More General Stories Search News Story Submissions Comments (0)No comments. |
