April 12, 2007 Remember this all starts with an emotional leap from 6m of Cornish Shrimper (Minimal Boating) to 11m of offshore capability, a chunk of sailing history and a rapid and steep learning curve! With 11m and my level of sailing experience came an immediate need for competent crew and leadership. Enter Yotlinx, worth a try and after a few emails and general broadcasts a crew of three was found. Linda and Phillipe, with a C Crew course behind them in February looking for sail time and Colin with varied experience developing his skills and skipper role. The boat itself, Nicholson 36, was eventually transported by road from Cornwall to Chatham and so with mast to be stepped, antifoul to be done and a whole list of sensible checks to complete at week-ends when weather was at its windiest there was a nice race against time and tide to be ready for Easter. Amazingly and to their credit, the crew all volunteered to help with preparations and Philippe mastered the bosun's chair for instance and so Good Friday arrived with a midday muster and 4:00 pm tide.Home More General Stories Search News Story Submissions Comments (0)No comments. |
