On passing Isla Dragonera , off the SW tip of Mallorca, the wind was found to be light NE’ly, the complete opposite to the forecast, and right on the nose. A few token tacks were done, however with 20 miles to run and a desire to get there before dark, the diesel sail was set and after a 5 hour trip up the mountainous west coast we arrived there just before dark at 1830hrs. Soller had a new marina layout since previous visits, extending from the original commercial mole and some quayside development was also apparent to the west of the (now unoccupied) naval station. The outside pontoon was brand new with only a few berths having lazy lines for mooring end-on. (Though it must be said that there were enough spaces to moor alongside on the pontoon if needed) The pontoons were without lights, power or water and it can only be surmised that these will be coming sometime in the future. The approach to the outside pontoon is shared with some quite large commercial fishing vessels however the ones which manoeuvred around during our visit caused no problems. Ashore it was quiet, as one would expect in the off season. The most light, noise (and inside, warmth) seemed to be coming from the Irish Pub on the waterfront so it was decided to abandon the idea of taking the Victorian tram up to Soller town a mile or so away. A couple of Guinness’ later and it was round to the nearby Chinese restaurant to round off a decidedly non-Mallorcan run ashore.
