Passing outside Isla del Toro – the inside passage is narrow with about 1.5 metres under the keel at the right point! – we made a night arrival at Santa Ponca at 2130, mooring alongside at the waiting berth for the night. The boat next to us was ‘Star Trekker’, a Starlight (Sadler) owned by the UK MoD & crewed by servicemen. Well worth the taxpayer’s money! The restaurant at the marina was still open despite it being the quiet season and we enjoyed an excellent meal to the accompaniment of a Spanish guitarist. Next morning, 3rd February, we left Santa Ponca at 0900 in calm conditions and blue skies. It was debated whether to try a run for Ibiza 60 miles to the SW and motored round to Puerto de Andraitx to pick up victuals ‘just in case’. The forecast at the Capitanierie was showing light S to SW winds so on leaving it was decided to make for Port de Soller halfway up the west coast.
